Regional Letters of Support-GM
Please see attached letter from Director Jef Binz requesting letters be sent to GM in support of our UAW Brothers and Sisters.
TO: All PA & NJ Local Union Presidents Greetings:
As I am sure you have heard via media reports over the last few weeks, General Motors plans so cease production at its Lordstown, Ohio and Hamtramck, Michigan plants. This announcement will also affect employment at the following facilities:
- Baltimore, MD
- Brownstown, Ml
- Warren, Ml (Transmission)
GM continues to increase production in Mexico, Poland and China. This is a slap in the face not only to General Motors employees who took major concessions and the UAW, but to American citizens who supported GM during the corporation's bailout from bankruptcy.
We are asking our members to support our fellow UAW brothers and sisters by writing letters to GM opposing these plant closings. Letters can be submitted through our UAW website: www.uaw.org. Once on the website, there is a banner across the top of the webpage, which you can click on to send your letter and let General Motors that this is unacceptable. Note, this information is also accessible under the TAKE ACTION tab on the website.
In closing, we ask that you assist in getting this information out to your membership, so all of our voices are heard. These closings will not only effect GM employees but all UAW members and as history has taught us "an injury to one is an injury to all!"
