UAW Local 2300 TCAT Bargaining Team Update – Making progress

UAW and TCAT have continued to meet daily to continue negotiations around non-economic demands. Since we last reported, several counters around attendance, mandation, and increased transparency and communication have gone back and forth, with TCAT submitting one new proposal that enhances paid prenatal leave. We have reached tentative agreements on 6 proposals including, length of shift and rest between shift guarantees, strengthening health and safety policies, more security refusing Extra Work, and codifying Vacation Board procedures.

Overall, negotiations have been cordial and we are learning more about TCAT’s perspectives on many issues. Management shared Cornell is a major source of funding. The amount Cornell contributes adjusts whether TCAT meets the metrics agreed upon between TCAT and Cornell. We also learned that management understands that transit is a physically demanding industry with high standards for physicals and driving is not the healthiest job on the planet. Management also highlighted that maintaining adequate staffing has been an on-going challenge for years.

As a first in TCAT/UAW negotiations, we are involving Union membership throughout the negotiation process. All members are invited to join the bargaining team, including our International Servicing Representative, Lonnie Everett and Local President, Christine Johnson, in TCAT’s large conference room any time between 11:30 and 14:00 on Monday the 13th and Wednesday the 15th to gain more in-depth insight about our current and upcoming demands and bring your questions

In solidarity,

UAW/TCAT Bargaining Team.
