UAW/TCAT Bargaining Update:

This past week, the bargaining team met with management representatives on Wednesday and Friday for bargaining sessions. The sessions focused on the Employee Concern Process, we introduced. After multiple conversations and several revisions to the UAW’s original proposal, management made it clear that they were uninterested in adding a process to address low-level employee concerns to the contract, asserting that the current policy and other avenues such as the Labor/Management Committee were sufficient to address the needs of our members on this issue. The bargaining team is continuing to hold this proposal open in order to assess our options in ensuring that our members’ concerns are adequately addressed.

Progress was made this week in another area, however. We have tentatively agreed on creating a new article emphasizing the value of adequate training for our members. While we were not able to include the comprehensive language the bargaining team originally proposed, we feel this tentative agreement is a solid first step in ensuring our members receive the training they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.

Our next bargaining session will be Friday, January 31st. We are planning on introducing our economic demands at this session. In the meantime, the bargaining team is planning a pop-up event to demonstrate the solidarity of our unit, our union, and our community. Stay tuned for more information about that event and how you can be involved. Bargaining unit members can also join our WhatsApp community (dub.sh/tcatwhatsapp) to get announcements about bargaining updates and solidarity events, as well as provide input or ask questions about the bargaining process.

In solidarity,

UAW TCAT Bargaining Team
