Instructions Following Contract Expiration

Brothers and Sisters,

As many of you are aware, the current collective bargaining agreement between UAW Local 1612 and Bridon Bekaert is set to expire at 11:59 p.m. on May 31, 2025. At this time, we are providing you with clear direction on what to do as we navigate the next steps in our fight for a fair and just contract.

1. Report to Work as Scheduled

Unless and until you are otherwise notified by the Union, all members should report to work for their regularly scheduled shifts after contract expiration. There is no strike or work stoppage in effect at this time. We are not engaging in any unauthorized or unprotected activity.

Your strength and professionalism during this period are critical.

2. What It Means to Work Without a Contract

Under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), it is legal and common for union members to continue working without a contract once the agreement expires, so long as the union and employer remain in negotiations.

Here’s what that means for you:

  • Your union status remains fully intact. You are still represented by UAW Local 1612.
  • The employer must maintain the status quo. Most terms and conditions of the expired contract—including wages, hours, and working conditions—continue in effect while negotiations proceed.

We are serious about bargaining and are not willing to accept substandard terms, but that we also respect the legal process and are committed to protecting our rights.

3. Continued Bargaining and Communication

Your Bargaining Committee and International Representative remain open and ready to negotiate. Despite the company’s issuance of a “Last, Best, and Final Offer,” we have expressed our willingness to resume bargaining and are actively preparing a comprehensive counterproposal that reflects your priorities.

We will keep you informed of any updates as soon as they become available. Please be sure to:

  • Attend all scheduled membership meetings as requested.
  • Stay in close contact with your department steward.
  • Check your email, texts, or union communication boards for official updates.

4. Stay United – Stay Ready

We know that working without a contract can create uncertainty. But make no mistake: you are not alone. Your Bargaining Committee is united, disciplined, and prepared. We’ve come this far together, and with your continued support, we will secure the contract we all deserve.

If you have any questions about your rights, your schedule, or the bargaining process, please reach out to your steward or a member of the Bargaining Committee directly.

In solidarity,

Lonnie Everett

UAW International Servicing Representative
