Retirees' LU686 Open Letter

Local 686 Retiree’s Chapter                                                                                    6-8-22

This is an open letter to the members of the UAW Local 686 Retiree’s Chapter.  This is around the 5th open letter to my brothers and sisters of the Retirees.  I have been working on a lot of things this past year so I can keep you informed about what is going on with the union.  First of all, I want to thank my Retiree Executive Board for all of their hard work as well.  Regarding the wearing of masks, as of now, the International Union, Local 686 UAW and our Regional Director Jeff Binz have lifted the mask mandate at our Union Hall. You still have the option of wearing a mask if you would like to for your safety and the safety of your families.  The UAW Hall is open by appointment only for Retirees and UAW members.  Please call (716) 433-6747.  If there is no answer, please leave a message so your call can be returned.

The retiree picnic will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at the Jurek Legion Post 1672, 655 New Road, Swormsville from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  If you were not on the previous mailing list and are a dues paying Retiree, please call (716) 433-6747 to be added to the invite list.  You must be a dues paying Retiree to attend.

The Union Label – Buy American Committee is holding the Buy American Day at the Lockport GM Plant on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 9:00 am. To 3:00 p.m. on Upper Mountain Road.  There will be cars, trucks and bikes American Made Only.  It is rain or shine.  All are welcome.  The registration for cars is $15.00 for entries.  There will be no glass containers or alcoholic beverages.  Thank you.

I also received applications for the UAW Region 9 Tom Fricano Scholarship Fund.  They are available through the Union Hall by calling (716) 433-6747 or can be found on the UAW Region 9 Website at region9.uaw.org.  The deadline is June 30, 2022.

I received a phone call from the Medical Trust.  They will be at our Tuesday, September 6, 2022 meeting to go over all of your benefits for 2023.  The meeting will start at 2:00 p.m.  We will also have bingo that day starting at 1:00 p.m.  If things change for that meeting, please turn to the Lockport Union Sun & Journal and the Niagara Falls Gazette, WLVL-1340 am radio, 105.3 fm and the UAW Website as well.

This is for some of our members that have left GM Harrison or Delphi employees that had five or more years in the plant and would like to join the Retiree’s Chapter of Local 686.  You can join as an Associate Member for the cost of $36.00 a year and have the benefits of coming to our meetings and our Christmas party and Picnic.  For our active Retiree members, your spouse can join our Retirees as well by signing an application available at the union hall.  Anyone that leaves the GM Plant in Lockport can join the Retiree Chapter as well.

If you have driven by the Union Hall, the parking lot is done.

 Just a reminder, the benefits office is open at the union hall Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 9:00 a.m. – Noon and 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.  For an appointment, call (716) 433-6747.

Myself and the Retiree Executive Board will start working on the Christmas party sometime in September.  If things go as planned, the Christmas party will be Tuesday, December 6, 2022.

In closing, I would like to say on behalf of myself and the Retiree Executive Board, to you and your families, please have a safe and healthy summer.  Hope to see you at our picnic or at the September 6th meeting.

  In Solidarity,

  Sal Pusateri, Jr., President
